Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Eugene has spent his entire career working in the tourism industries of his home country, Zimbabwe and the US. Currently based in New York, he also owns and operates a well-known tourist transport company in Johannesburg. Over the past 20 years, his business and personal travels have taken him to more than 22 countries.

An early childhood Christmas present from his parents — a Hornby Clockwork ‘O Gauge’ train set — inspired a life-long love for trains in Eugene, who, at age 11, took his first photograph of a steam locomotive using a black & white Kodak Instamatic.

Today, Eugene shoots a variety of subjects on his digital Nikon, including aircraft, architecture, travel and wildlife, although his work remains largely centered around railways and trains.

His photographs have appeared in several publications, including International Railway Journal, Eisenbahn Romantik, Railways Africa, SA Rail and Trains. He is also an avid contributor to Railpictures.net where his work has earned him several choice awards. In August 2019, Eugene was a winner in the ‘Judges Also Liked’ category of Railfan & Railroad magazine’s Centrespread contest.
